How Christian Women Can Stay Grounded In A Noisy World

When I originally wrote this blog post, we were two days post U.S. election 2016 and let's just say that social media was quite colorful to say the least. This is what I wrote at the time "I think we all positively held out hope that the negative fire storm would die down after the election but I think we have entered into Act 2 of what could be appropriately called "The Nightmare On America Street". (The Pollyanna side of me who always clings to unwavering hope believes that people will come together compassionately united....eventually.)"

Well, we all know how that ended. By 2020 we were in the middle of a pandemic and the political arena had only gotten worse. Much worse and by the end of 2020 we were completely consumed by pandemic and election fraud turmoil.

The world around us is noisy and social media especially can quickly be overtaken by viral overly emotional opinions that seem to perpetually boil over that leave you feeling like the morning after a long hard night of partying where you lost count on how many glasses of wine you had waking up not remembering most of the night but what you do know is that you need a long hot shower and a good detoxing.

For me personally social media gives me a hangover type headache.

But here is what I have learned over my 48 years of life that God has so graciously given me, our thoughts determine our reality. We have the ultimate choice of what we focus on. What deserves and takes up our time and energy. Who we surround ourselves with. How much time we stay plugged into the online chatter that never shuts up and whether we fill our minds with 24/7 news channels (who only want to report their twisted version of the facts) or curl up with a good book to further our personal development and raise the energy in which we are vibrating.

Every hour of every day we get to choose what is best for our minds, bodies and souls.

Now before you get all BUT...BUT... on me, I am not saying we need to bury our heads in the sand and pretend like nothing is going on. Yes, there are countless issues and causes to support, concerns to have and issues to be educated about but is being consumed with it and partaking in arguments healthy? I know for me personally it's nothing but a big barrel of green slimy smelly toxic waste.

When I am feeling overwhelmed and the fear and anxiety start to creep in like a thief in the night to steal my peace and joy I tap into resources to help my soul stay grounded, that help me recenter and realign. I mean I am human after all and can get all caught up in my own emotions, feelings and wants as much as anyone. Truth be told I can easily go into a mental state of wanting to throw my lollipop in the dirt, stomp around and then demand that someone get me another one.

Yeah, not pretty.

One of the many beautiful things about being a Christian woman is how spiritually connected we are. When we tap into that, it's very liberating and empowering. I find that I have to do it often, especially as an empath. My highly sensitive nature demands it because I can be easily sucked dry by negative forces. If you are finding yourself anxious about the election results, life, your family, your marriage, a friendship that went south, your business....I hope you know that your destiny starts in your house, with you, and no one else. Every day you wake up with a new opportunity to:

Kick self doubt to the curb.

To choose hope over fear.

To take action.

To release anything that threatens your inner peace.

To love someone despite your differences.

To make the bold impact on this world you were created to make.

To break off from the masses and challenge the status quo.

To create.

To honor God and live the life He has called us to.

Being a Christian woman and staying grounded in a noisy world is not always easy but a necessary focus and commitment in order to thrive. Here are some ways you can help your soul stay grounded in a world full of chaos:

1. Choosing the Word over the world. Stand firm in who you are in Christ instead of what the world tells you to be. I use the First 5 App for my daily devotional time digging deep into God's word. Its free and easily found in your app store. If meditation is more your style find a good meditation app and make it a non-negotiable part of your day.

1. Nature. If you love being outside, if connecting with Mother Earth is your jam, make that a priority. Find ways that you can take your work outside. On your patio, to the beach, on the veranda of your favorite coffee shop, open the windows and let some fresh air, sounds and smells. in.

2. Healthy foods. The brain and body is fueled by what you feed it. That is not rocket science. Choose good fresh healthy foods and stay stocked up on them. Coconut oil can give you a burst of energy and is easily added to coffee and smoothies. Walnuts are high in Omega-3 and have been shown to improve memory. I could go on and on, the point is to choose foods that will nourish and show your body some love.

3. Dance. Seriously when was the last time you threw on some good music and totally let loose in the middle of your living room? One of the hazards of adulting is taking ourselves way too seriously most of the time. When I need to drown out the rhetoric from the outside and even my own inner critic I will turn on some high energy worship music like Ain't No Grave (performed by Molly Skaggs daughter of country singer Ricky Skaggs with Bethel Music). It is POWERFUL! Create a playlist of your favorite tunes and dance a lot more often.

4. Move your body. Maybe you love exercise and maybe you don't (yep, that's me!) but there are so many benefits to moving your body. Emotional benefits including relieving stressing and decreasing anxiety, mental benefits include decreasing brain fog and decreasing your risk of dementia and the physical benefits are the obvious ones like maintaining a healthy weight and decreasing your risk of heart disease and cancer.

Exercise has always been a struggle for me so I focus on things that I love like dancing, going for walks and I have a Total Gym that I love for strength training (found one like new for $200 on Facebook Marketplace!)

One of my favorite resource too is Faithful Workouts, an online Christian fitness community.

5. Unplug. When the noise starts to suffocate your spirit, be disciplined enough to put the MacBook and your phone away and focus on something else. Mother Theresa said it best "Want to change the world? Go home and love your family." Open your Bible and soak in the peace of God's word. I love the Bible Studies from The Daily Grace Co

7. Do something. Anyone can sit behind a computer and be a keyboard warrior pointing fingers and placing blame but making a real difference requires taking action. Nothing can be more uplifting and healing for the soul than to roll up your sleeves, get in the trenches and do the work for a cause that is near and dear to your heart.

Finally I want to leave you with a gift, one of my favorite mantras "A Meditative Woman" by Guru Rattana PH.D. I reference this often as it serves as a powerful reminder of who I am as a woman and how important my choices and the words I speak over my life are. I hope it awakens, inspires and empowers you to stand tall, fierce and bold as a soul centered woman who has a bright light to shine for the world xo

::::::::

A meditative woman does not have to figure everything out.
She intuits the best solution.

A meditative woman does not succumb to unconscious self sabotage.
she supports herself with self love.

A meditative woman is not caught up in drama's and traumas.
She sees the bigger picture and responds by serving the higher good.

A mediative woman is not dulled by routine and challenges.
Her radiant glow expands by holding her space for love.

A meditative woman is not worn down by doubt and self criticism.
She is elevated by her ability to trust her soul and her divine connection.

A meditative woman does not give up.
She calls upon and surrenders to a higher power.

A meditative woman does not worry.
She prays, sits in her inner calmness and allows her radiance to work for her.

A meditative woman prays for and creates her own happiness and success..
