5 Ways You Can Guarantee A Better Start To Your Day

When I became a full time entrepreneur after losing my job in corporate America, I struggled my first few months with creating a new "norm". I had always worked a J.O.B. My life revolved around a set schedule for 15+ years. Be up at 5:30 a.m., out the door by 6:30 a.m., at work by 8 a.m., lunch at 11:30 a.m....you get the picture. Having the time freedom to do what you want when you want is a true gift but not as easy as it sounds.

I had to create a schedule for myself, set intentional hours for when I would work and when I would unplug, even if I was my own boss and enjoying it from the comfort of my yoga pants and fuzzy socks. I found that the more of a routine I established the easier it was for me to stay on task. I especially found that the more structured my morning hours were the more it increased my productivity.

Having a set routine in the morning can create much more harmony and bliss in your work from home journey. Here are my top 5 tips to guarantee a better start to your day:

1. RISE & SHINE EARLY FOR "ME" TIME

Schedule 20-30 minutes of time just for you in the mornings. Rise and shine early before the kids get up or you have to help hubby out the door for personal development, daily devotional, meditation, to enjoy a cup of java. Whatever brings you joy and clarity to start the day. I absolutely love the First5 devotional app created by Proverbs 31 Ministries

2. START THE DAY WITH LEMONS

Lemons are packed with nutrients, including vitamin C, B-complex vitamins, calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, and fiber. (Fun fact: they contain more potassium than apples or grapes!)

Squeeze fresh lemons {organic is always best if available} into hot water and drink first thing in the morning. Wait 15 to 30 minutes to have breakfast. This will help your body fully receive these awesome benefits of lemon water:

  1. Gives your immune system a boost

  2. Excellent source of potassium

  3. Encourages healthy digestion by loosening toxins in the digestive tract. Helps to relieve systems of heartburn and bloating

  4. Flushes toxins from the body and stimulates the liver

  5. Freshens your breath and can help with gingivitis

  6. Keeps your skin blemish free

  7. Helps you lose weight - Lemons contain pectin fiber which fights hunger cravings

  8. Reduces inflammation and acidity in the body

  9. Give you an energy boost

  10. Helps to fight viral infections

3. EXERCISE DOES THE BODY, MIND & SPIRIT GOOD

We all know how important exercise is, there are thousands of studies to prove it and reasons to get your body moving. The key to a good exercise routine is to find something that you enjoy and make the time to do it. Sometimes my routine may just consist of jumping jacks with my 3 year old and sets of push ups.

I love Faithful Workouts where the workouts are faith based with uplifting Christian music and messages as well as meal plans and recipes. You don't have to run 5 miles every day, just find something that makes you feel good and stick with it. I love the energizing 10 minute workouts that Michelle offers through Faithful Workouts.

4. KNOCK OUT THE EMAILS

Knock out your emails early in the day, be intentional, be conscience of the time you are spending on your email. Unsubscribe from things you are no longer interested in following that are cluttering up your inbox. Organize your read emails into folders as you go {expenses, time sensitive, etc.}. This keeps your in-box from getting out of control and turning into an overwhelming monster.

5. CREAT A SIMPLE SELF CARE ROUTINE

Carve out a few minutes every morning and evening for some self care.

Every morning I wake up an hour before it's time to get the boys up for school. I have my coffee pot set to have my coffee brewed and I spend an hour in my favorite recliner snuggled up with our sweet Boxer girl. I sip my cup of coffee from my favorite mug and enjoy sitting in stillness before the morning rush begins.

In the evening, I will go for a walk after dinner with my hubby, give myself a facial before bed and I have a no cell policy once I am in bed. Getting enough sleep at night is definitely a form of self care so if that is an area that you are lacking think about how you can change some things up so you can be better rested to face the next day.
